Poetry Final Competition

Good afternoon colleagues:

     Our Boca High Slam Poetry Team has advanced past 40 high school teams from all over South Florida and will  perform in  Louder Than a Bomb Florida’s  Final Four this Saturday evening from 6-8 pm at  Nova Southeastern University’s Epstein Center for the Performing Arts, 3375 SW 75th Ave. Davie. This is a high-energy, exciting (read: nerve-wracking!) competition sponsored and attended by former Miami Dolphin Jason Taylor. If you would like to attend, please let me know and I can get you coupons (as many as you’d like) for $5 tickets.
     Please support  poets Nathaniel Hopwood, Veronica Mentor, Madison Shaw, Jennifer Bezerra, Samantha Maughan, Rebecca Pincus, Madison Lynn, Juliette Armsworthy, and Karla Herrera as they head to the Final Four on Saturday night.

Optional Spring Break Practice for Secondary Schools

In an effort to help students continue to practice important skills over the spring break, the Department of K-12 Curriculum has put together optional spring break learning resources for students in the areas of reading, mathematics, science and social studies. The resources also include links to the Destiny Library, MackinVIA eBooks and SAT practice.  These optional spring break resources can be accessed directly by students and parents at:
Families will be able to link to the site via the Students and Parents page and District Links in Edline, and it will also be added to the District home page. 

National Honor Society – Current Sophomores and Juniors Applications



If you are interested in joining National Honor Society applications are now available here. All applicants must meet the NHS requirements as stated on the application. Remember each application must have two recommendations from a teacher, coach, or sponsor. They can access the teacher recommendation on the NHS website via Bobcat News. Deadline is Thursday March 16th. Please see Ms. Lent in room 8-127 if you have any questions.

Free live online SAT classes

Your students deserve every opportunity to succeed on the SAT, a key step on the path to college. That’s why we’ve partnered with Khan Academy to launch Khan Academy Live: SAT, a series of three free live online SAT classes.

The classes will cover important skills, provide tips for the SAT, and offer students the opportunity to chat 1:1 with experts from College Board and Khan Academy. The 1 hour classes will take place on YouTube Live every Thursday at 7 pm ET/4 pm PT on Feb. 23, Mar. 2, and Mar. 9. We’ll cover a different topic each week, and your students can RSVP today using the buttons below:

African and African American Studies

Boca High is now offering the course African and African American Studies for next school year.  This course was inadvertently left off the course selection sheets so please contact your Dean or go to Student Services if you are interested in taking the course next year.

The course will cover Ancient Africa, African Exploration of the World,  Invasion and Weakening of Africa:  Colonialism, Enslavement Period:  In the Americas, The Nadir:  Civil Rights and Constitutional Rights, The Soul of African Americans, and Contributions of African Americans to the United States of America and to the World.

Bobcat SAT BootCamp

Bobcat SAT Boot Camp – Get prepared for the upcoming SAT test.

Who: Attention all Bobcats

What: SAT Boot Camp: Top Boca High teachers will instruct strategies and skills to improve student performance on the SAT college entrance exam.

Where: Boca Raton High School — Main Campus (5 building — room assignments will be posted upon arrival).

When: Four consecutive dates which will include a rotation of Reading, Writing,and Math for each session.

The 4 week schedule:

Saturday: 2/11/17      8:00 AM – 11:10AM

Saturday: 2/18/17      8:00 AM – 11:10AM

Saturday: 2/25/17      8:00 AM – 11:10AM     

Saturday: 3/4/17        8:00 AM – 11:10AM

Cost: Boca High students will have to pay $40 and will receive an SAT preparation book, which students will keep. Students who do not attend Boca High will be permitted to register for $160 if spaces are available.  Snacks will be provided during each session.

Registration: Boot Camp fee must be paid using School Cash. Only 90 spots are available and it is first come first served.

YearBook- Senior Ads

Yearbook Announcements
The deadline to order a senior ad/ dedication page in the yearbook is fast approaching. All purchases must be made by January 31, 2017. To make your purchase and design your page, head to www.yearbookordercenter.com. Our school code is #18.
The deadline to pre-order a yearbook is March 25, 2017. Right now yearbooks are still discounted at $95 until February 28, 2017 (final price is $105). IF YOU DO NOT PRE-ORDER A YEARBOOK, WE CANNOT GUARANTEE A BOOK FOR YOU. Last year, yearbooks were sold out quickly and many students (even seniors) and parents were disappointed. The time to order is NOW! Orders can be placed at www.yearbookordercenter.com. Our school code is #18.
